If you have questions, doubts, suggestions or just some good information just write in comments, dont hesitate.
Master of engineering degree M.Tech, ME or MS admission in IITs is dream for thousands of student. As every student know that GATE is conducted for Admission to all engineering course right from Computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical and civil engineering. The number of admissions offered in these engineering courses are very limited therefore getting less score not able to get admission doesn’t mean that your are not capable of studying M.Tech or MS. Dont ever give up on the dream of higher studies.
There are lots of good universities all over the world specially if you an average student should try Master of Engineering programs in Germany, France and other European countries, as Education is free and you get good scholarships there, you can also consider master degree admissions in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and US. Getting admission in MS same as M.Tech or Master degrees courses is easier than getting in IITs. On the same time These universities give you good facilities for research and development. Usually Master degree in Computer Science or Master degree in Electrical, Electronics have good findings and support many students.

All the best for admissions and keep working hard.

Civil Engineering: Prospects, Future and Institutes in India

Civil engineering is one of the most traditional engineering studies in India. British started very good schools for civil engineering studies and successfully completed some of the best public projects like Ganga canal and India’s Railway network to name few. In the first year of study students will learn about the basic engineering techniques along with mathematics and engineering design. From second year students will be more focused towards core subject studies. Few of the subjects taught in these four years are Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Design of Structures, and Structural Mechanics and water recourse engineering. Students are also partly exposed to subjects like Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Remote Sensing, Transportation Systems Engineering..etc.
A bachelor degree in civil engineering will give good opportunities in industry as India is moving fast forward for infrastructure development and one the same time leave a good space for higher studies at home and abroad like MS in civil engineering. Almost all top universities offer MS in civil engineering and there are good opportunities PhD and research too.
Core Companies for Civil Engineers: Associated Engineering Consultants, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Railways, Engineers India Ltd., DRDO, ISRO, SERC and Jaypee Group are to name few companies and organizations that offer jobs to civil engineering students.
Average salary: 2.5~3.5 Lakhs per annum

GATE cut-off for IITs: An analysis

A search for accurate and useful information about about GATE cutoff score or percentiles for admission into Master of Engineering degrees (M.Tech) in IITs always lead to the forums that and only questions. After investing a lot of time I decided to carryout research about IITs and NITs cutoffs for GATE scores for different department and give a generalized analysis for students to figure out where they stand. To make this post I depended only on official web sites of IITs and different departments.
A genuine effort has been made to help students with cutoff scores analysis. I collected information related to different categories like Open, BC, SC and ST in departments like computer science and engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering departments. For more details refer to GATE 2010 cutoffs, and GATE 2009 Cutoffs.
You can find the sources of information from where the data is collected and extracted. As there are many departments I tried to represent an approximate score that may help you to get into IITs for master of engineering (M.Tech or ME). On the same time, I would like to tell you that your GATE score is just a necessary but not sufficient condition to get into IITs. The other factors I mentioned GATE Percentile for IITs. You can also refer to GATE Cutoff for IITs and NITs for details about master degree admissions in Top Institutes in India. You may also find GATE 2010 analysis useful
If you get close to these scores you have high chances of getting interview/written test calls from any of the IITs. This is just an approximation. The other point is, if it is direct admission then scores will be high and if there are interviews and written tests they little lower scores may also get chances to appear for exam and interview.
The GATE cutoff scores for IITs are as follows.

Every engineering department have many specializations I considered the scores little higher than minimum scores to give a margin for error. For a detail analysis you can visit IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Gowhati. ( these links were visited on 10.07.2009 No one take any responsibility if they are not not active when you visit them).
Please do remember getting master of engineering degree M.Tech, ME or MS admission in IITs is dream for thousands of student.
Try all the possibilities to go for higher studies if you are really on to it.

Engineering Courses: Future, Prospects, Institutes and Studies in India

Selecting an engineering course is a difficult choice because either your choice makes you happy rest of your life or after four years of engineering you try to change your field. I wrote a post on which is the best engineering course to help students based on industry trends.
In this article I tried to give general information about engineering courses. I tried to collect and analyze information about engineering courses degrees and top colleges to study. I focused on kind of job you will be offered, average salary, best or leading companies and top institutes offering these courses and admission procedure. India today published an article saying “Best engineering courses 2009”, but I think I was written by some journalist rather than an Engineer. Most of the courses they mention were never offered in India at B.Tech or M.Tech level for example Energy engineering, Nuclear engineering, etc. This makes most of the courses mentioned in the article irrelevant for B.Tech and M.Tech students.
In this collection of posts I tried to cover the traditional engineering branches and give a brief introduction and give information about job prospects and industry and student trends instead of mentioning name that we never heard when we go for admissions. The courses

Aeronautical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Biotechnology or BioEngineering
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Mining Engineering
Petroleum Engineering

I tried my best to collect and share information with many students here. If have any questions, suggestions or more information worth sharing, please do not hesitate to write in comment box below.

GATE cutoff for NITs: An Analysis of NIT Warangal

Finding exact GATE cutoff scores was almost impossible for NITs. But
last year the initiative taken by NIT Trichy, NIT warangal and NIT Calicut for a common counseling for M.Tech and afterward publishing the results online made possible have an analysis of GATE cutoff score for these NITs. They only considered GATE scores and information about GATE percentile for these NITs is kept unavailable to students. I made an analysis huge admission data of these NITs and tried to present it to a reader understandable for format. Previously and wrote posts like GATE percentile and GATE cutoff score for IITs after collecting data from different IIT websites. visit IITs and NITs GATE 2009 Cutoff cutoff analysis for more information.
Organization of this data was difficult but I tried to make a accurate analysis of M.Tech admission in every department of each NIT. The issue was every department offer many specialized master of engineering (M.Tech) courses and everyone have a different preference and hence GATE scores. For this analysis I combined all the courses offered by a department and extracted the highest score, lowest score and average score. For average score I selected a score that close the most number of students in that category.
For detailed analysis of each NIT cutoff scores you need to wait for next posts, where I will try to give the details about cutoff scores for each and individual course offered by these NITs.

Expert Systems and decision making

One of the most successful applications of artificial intelligence reasoning techniques using facts and rules has been in building expert systems that embody knowledge about a specialized field of human endeavour, such as medicine, engineering, or business.
Knowledge Base and the Inference Engine are two major parts of the expert system. The knowledge base consists of facts and rules about the subject at hand. The inference engine consists of all processes that manipulate the knowledge base to deduce information requested by the user. Knowledge acquisition is a crucial stage in the development of expert systems. As a process, it involves eliciting, interpreting and representing the knowledge from a given domain. Knowledge acquisition for expert systems (from domain experts) is time consuming, expensive and potentially unreliable.
In the construction of an expert system, a ‘knowledge engineer’ (usually a computer scientist with artificial intelligence training) works with an expert (or experts) in the field of application in order. to represent the relevant knowledge of the expert in a form that can be entered into the knowledge base. This process is often aided by a knowledge acquisition subsystem that, among other things, checks the growing knowledge base for possible inconsistencies and incomplete information. These are then presented to the expert for resolution.

Routing In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Developing support for routing is one of the most significant challenges in ad hoc networks and is critical for the basic network operations. Certain unique combinations of characteristics make routing in ad hoc networks interesting. First, nodes in an ad hoc network are allowed to move in an uncontrolled manner. Such node mobility results in a highly dynamic network with rapid topological changes causing frequent route failures. A good routing protocol for this network environment has to dynamically adapt to the changing network topology.
Second, the underlying wireless channel provides much lower and more variable bandwidth than wired networks. The wireless channel working as a shared medium makes available bandwidth per node even lower. So routing protocols should be bandwidth-efficient by expending a minimal overhead for computing routes so that much of the remaining bandwidth is available for the actual data communication.
Third, nodes run on batteries which have limited energy supply. In order for nodes to stay and communicate for longer periods, it is desirable that a routing protocol be energy-efficient as well. This also provides also another reason why overheads must be kept low. Thus, routing protocols must meet the conflicting goals of dynamic adaptation and low overhead to deliver good overall performance.

Multicasting in Ad Hoc Networks

MANETs are useful in many application environments and do not need any infrastructure support. Collaborative computing and communications in smaller areas (buildings, organizations, conferences, etc.) can be set up using MANETs.
Communications in battlefields and disaster recovery areas are other examples of application environments. Similarly communications using a network of sensors, and inter-island communications using floats over water are other potential applications of MANETs. The increasing use of collaborative applications and wireless devices may further add to the needs and usages of MANETs. Many of these potential applications of MANETs involve point-to-multipoint communication, and thus would benefit from multicasting support in the network layer. IP multicasting – is an extension to Internet architecture to support multiple clients at network layer. The fundamental motivation behind IP multicasting is to save network and bandwidth resource via transmitting a single copy of data to reach multiple receivers simultaneously.
What makes ad hoc multicasting distinguished from Internet multicasting is that mobile nodes could move around freely and rapidly.
Ad hoc multicasting protocols in existing literature have either evolved from the Internet multicast protocol, or designed specifically for ad hoc networks. Most of these protocols attempt to adapt to the network dynamics in ad hoc networks. The primary goal of ad hoc multicasting protocols should be to construct/maintain a robust & efficient multicasting route even during high network dynamics.
Multicasting techniques in MANETs can be classified based on group dynamics or network dynamics.
A primary issue for managing multicast group dynamics is the routing path that is built for data forwarding. Most existing ad hoc multicasting protocols can be classified as tree-based or mesh-based.
In a tree-based protocol, a tree-like data forwarding path is built with the root at the source of the multicast session. In a mesh-based protocol, in contrast, multiple routes may exist between any pair of source and destination, which is intended to enrich the connectivity among group members for better resilience against topology changes.
A major source of network dynamics is node mobility and node failure.
1) Reliance on More Nodes
2) Reliance on Fewer Nodes
3) Reliance on No Nodes
4) Reliance on Stable Nodes
5) Reliance on an Overlay Layer

Top Deemed Universities in India for Engineering

After conducting a search for deemed universities in India, we conducted a small research to make a list of Deemed or private universities in India those offer engineering degrees and approved by UGC and their degrees are accepted for master degree in engineering by AICTE. We only included private deemed universities and excluded all government run institutes and International Institute of Information Technology (IIITs). This list of taken from Ministry of HRD web site a government organization for education in India. The original list includes non-technical universities too. We extracted only private universities that offer bachelor degrees, master degrees, and/ or PhD degrees in Engineering domain.
These universities are ranked based on intellectual property (faculty and research contribution) and placements. We conducted a detailed research of each university and collected information about faculty members of popular and common engineering branches during January 2010. Based on simple statistical formula we made a list of Best or Top Deemed Universities in India.

Load Balancing in Internet

The Internet is a network of networks in which users at any one computer can get access to the information from any other computer. It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANET. The main aim was to allow the researchers of different universities be able to talk each other. Today, the Internet is a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Technically, the Internet uses a set of protocols called TCP/IP (for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). As the Internet operates without a central governing body, the most critical consideration in Internet is Load Balancing. Load balancing aims at improving the performance of the Internet by distributing the workload evenly across the network, in order to get optimal resource utilization, maximize throughput, minimize response time, avoid overload and increase bandwidth. To scale performance, Network Load Balancing distributes IP traffic across multiple cluster hosts. It also ensures high availability by detecting host failures and automatically redistributing traffic to the surviving hosts. Network Load Balancing brings special value to enterprises deploying TCP/IP services, such as e-commerce applications, that link clients with transaction applications and back-end databases.
Network Load Balancing servers (also called hosts) in a cluster communicate among themselves to provide key benefits, including:
• Scalability. Network Load Balancing scales the performance of a server-based program, such as a Web server, by distributing its client requests across multiple servers within the cluster. As traffic increases, additional servers can be added to the cluster, with up to 32 servers possible in any one cluster.
• High availability. Network Load Balancing provides high availability by automatically detecting the failure of a server and repartitioning client traffic among the remaining servers within ten seconds, while providing users with continuous service.
Network Load Balancing, load-balances incoming client requests by directing a selected percentage of new requests to each cluster host; the load percentage is set in the Network Load Balancing Properties dialog box for each port range to be load-balanced. The algorithm does not respond to changes in the load on each cluster host (such as the CPU load or memory usage). However, the mapping is modified when the cluster membership changes, and load percentages are renormalized accordingly.
